Michelle Calcote King, principal and president of content marketing and public relations firm Reputation Ink, has been named a “Woman of Influence” by the Jacksonville Business Journal. She will receive her award at an August 13 ceremony.

Just last month King celebrated her fourth year in business with Reputation Ink, one of Jacksonville’s only firms with in-depth expertise in content marketing. After more than a decade working in public relations, in 2011 King noticed a trend toward companies and organizations creating more of their own original content (including blogs, e-books, videos, microsites, infographics and more), leveraging them to attract prospects. Today, content marketing is the fastest-growing marketing strategy, with companies allocating greater proportions of their marketing budgets to creating content and moving away from traditional methods such as display advertising and “vanity” brochures.

To meet this demand, King launched Reputation Ink (originally named Reputation Capital), a content marketing firm focused on developing content and inbound strategies and campaigns. The firm quickly grew, doubling in size each year. King focused on building a team of writers and strategists and partnering with external designers and technical specialists such as web developers and programmers.

Now totaling six full-time employees and an extended network of freelancers, Reputation Ink’s clients include Jacksonville-based leaders such as Stellar, Nocatee, Rayonier, TerraPointe, Rogers Towers, and US Assure. In addition, the firm has expanded beyond Jacksonville to include a national litigation firm, Susman Godfrey, a Salt Lake City-based high-tech leader, Instructure, Houston-based intellectual property firm Patterson + Sheridan, full-service Nashville law firm Frost Brown Todd, government affairs firm Civic Point, market research firm FGI Research and many others.

While running a small business is a time-consuming endeavor, King finds time to give back to the community in numerous ways. She serves on two nonprofit boards — Community Connections and Greenscape — and gives to a range of organizations and events dedicated to improving her neighborhood of historic Springfield, where she lives and works. Reputation Ink’s offices are in the Third and Main building on Main Street, next door to the popular lunch spot Uptown Kitchen and Bar.
