Client situation

Harris St. Laurent & Wechsler is a premier New York City-based boutique litigation and employment firm that represents a broad spectrum of clients with a focus on financial services.

Challenge

Harris St. Laurent & Wechsler partner Andrew St. Laurent represented Ishan Wahi in the closely watched case SEC v. Wahi, one of the first SEC prosecutions of cryptocurrency traders, and the related criminal case, US v. Wahi, the first cryptocurrency insider trading case. Reputation Ink to help him build on that experience by speaking and writing on cryptocurrency. Rep Ink helped connect him to media covering other enforcement actions against players in the crypto industry.

Our solution

Rep Ink worked with St. Laurent to pitch him on several cryptocurrency topics and secure media placements through interviews and articles. We also newsjacked the recent ruling on SEC v. Ripple, offering St. Laurent as someone with rare insights into that case given his experience. Reputation Ink secured several interviews and bylined article opportunities. We helped draft articles for St. Laurent. As several similar outlets requested bylined articles, we advised St. Laurent on which opportunities to pursue to meet his strategic goals. We also prepared him with media training in advance of his interviews.

Results

Rep Ink secured five article placements:

  • Bloomberg Law on how crypto projects face uncertainty and risks
  • Blockworks on how the SEC is pursuing “enforcement by regulation”
  • Blockworks on the SEC v. Ripple ruling
  • Law360 on the criminal probe into Binance
  • BBN Bloomberg article about the SEC v. Ripple ruling

These placements allowed St. Laurent to receive exposure to the key publications that his target audience, crypto clients, would read. He established a relationship with the reporters and opened doors for future coverage. St. Laurent was also interviewed for an article in Coindesk, a new site specializing in Bitcoin. He was not featured in the story but established a relationship with the reporter for as a source on related topics.
