The architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry is incredibly competitive. We have a few Rep Ink favorites for getting your firm the recognition you deserve, including bylined articles in reputable publications and well-written project portfolios. But what about award programs? There are plenty of rings to throw your AEC hat into — but which rankings and opportunities are worth your time? We often recommend (and assist with drafting submissions for) DBIA's respected award program. However, because these nominations can be robust (read: time-consuming), Marja’s latest blog post breaks down our recommended best practices when preparing to submit.

Law firms continue to focus on diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and clients are taking notice. One prominent initiative attracting the participation of more and more firms is the Mansfield Rule Certification, created by Diversity Lab. This certification “aims to promote diversity and inclusion by ensuring equal opportunities for underrepresented groups in leadership positions within law firms and legal departments.” Yes, it’s the right thing to do. But why should law firms focus on these external recognitions of in-house efforts? And what is the path to certification?

If you want to hide under your desk when the word “Chambers” is muttered around your office, you’re not alone! In the swirl of tasks, calls and to-do’s that surrounds in-house legal marketers, Chambers can be a swear word as it invokes images of lengthy submissions and reference vetting. Is it worth it? We think so, and for good reason. Check out Kevin and Shelby’s latest to learn why we encourage our legal clients to participate in Chambers and Partners annual submissions.

Excellent media coverage can make a brand sizzle, so how do you crank up the heat for your architecture, engineering or construction firm? There are many approaches to earn the media’s attention. One strategy: exclusives. Media exclusives give journalists a first look at a project, initiative or announcement, allowing them to “break” the story for their publication before anyone else. There are benefits and trade-offs to offering media exclusives — the key is knowing when and how to use them. (You wouldn’t mindlessly hand bottle rockets to a toddler, right?) Learn how exclusives work, the potential pitfalls and what you should consider when using this strategy to make a star-spangled media “splash” of your own.

We know how incredible in-house legal marketers are. We work alongside these professionals every day. Legal marketers tend to be many things (sharp, savvy, knowledgeable), but there’s one thing we consistently find that they are not. Bored. Legal marketers are juggling many demands from many stakeholders, and the need for support is real. When we tell you the importance of working with a specialist legal marketing and PR agency, we can hear you pulling out your salt shakers to add a grain. Of course we think that! It’s our job.

Today's smartphones allow all employees to capture high-quality video content conveniently. However, with safety concerns and job site protocols, many AEC firms may shy away from this resource. Learn why you should care about employee-generated video content and how to empower your people to capture great video in the field.

In the world of business-to-consumer marketing, there is a well-known principle called the “excess share of voice” (ESOV) rule. This rule states that brands with a higher “share of voice” than their “share of the market” will grow. So much fancy marketing speak! In layman’s terms, it means that the more your firm is discussed in the media, online and in front of your target audience (by authoring articles, stepping up your social media presence or presenting at conferences), the more market share your firm will gain over time, growing your business as a result.

f you’re familiar with our agency, you know we value a few things above all else: award-winning writing and industry expertise. (And our dogs, but that’s not super relevant here.) Like Rep Ink, Google favors strong content over fluff pieces. As the search platform increasingly becomes the way clients find their way to you, it’s more important than ever to make sure you show up (and show up quickly) on Google’s search pages. But how?

Unfortunately, even the best, most color-coded, thoughtfully planned social media editorial calendar won’t keep you safe from that most dreaded of 21st century creatures: The Internet Troll. Instead of demanding bridge fare and the answer to riddles three, these trolls lurk on your company’s social media pages and are quick to throw out a negative comment or unkind unsolicited feedback. While it can be tempting to toss your computer out the window and call the whole thing off, social media continues to be a crucial business tool. So how can you balance maintaining an online presence that reflects your firm’s values and tone while dealing with these trolls?

Turnover isn’t fun, but it’s a fact of business. And while replacing a law firm’s in-house superstar can be a pebble in the shoes of your firm’s HR and leadership teams, it can also affect your firm’s reputation. An effective PR strategy can help bridge the gaps that occur when talent jumps ship, as well as help the firm move onward and upward.

For Rep Ink’s architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) clients, designing and constructing award-winning projects is their bread and butter (brick and mortar?). It’s what they’re in the field doing, day in and day out. The question we often get is how to build a bridge (so to speak) between their expertise and audiences who follow industry news. And while we can’t mindread to know exactly what trade publications will cover next, we do have a pretty powerful tool at our disposal to help clients land bylined article opportunities.

If you haven't heard, the metaverse is what many in the computer industry believe is the next iteration of the internet: a single, shared, immersive, persistent, 3D virtual space where humans experience life in ways they could not in the physical world. If this sounds like the Matrix, you’re not alone! While some AEC firms may take the proverbial "blue pill" by covering their eyes and ignoring this “trend” of virtual reality, those who take the "red pill" and welcome this new technology may find themselves ahead of the curve.

As Google increasingly becomes the way clients find their way to you, it’s more important than ever to make sure you show up (and show up quickly) on Google’s search pages. But how? Especially when Google is getting “smarter” and throwing search-result gold stars at the content it deems better?

We may be (okay, definitely are) biased, but working with a seasoned legal PR agency is a surefire way for legal professionals to get in front of the right editors and reporters. While we will always tout the benefits of connecting with the right agency to meet your PR goals, there are other ways to get some ink. Contributor networks can provide niche opportunities for legal professionals who are willing to put in some non-billable hours to become a published thought leader. But how do you get started?

When one of your AEC firm’s thought leaders leaves, it can feel … spooky. And, if you’re doing your work on the content marketing front, they've likely authored some posts for your blog and might be quoted in a few industry publications. That means their name (and content) are still tied to your brand and floating around the internet like a ghost with unfinished business. So what comes next?
